  • Glimpse's debut, RUNNER, kicks off with the African rhythmic tones of "Walk Tall," almost harking back to the very roots of house music itself. But then we catapult to mid-1990s Cologne for the dub- (and Janet Jackson!)-inflected techno of "If I Was Your Girl." And "Things to Do in Denver" takes us to sample-heavy Chicago -- three tracks, and we've already traversed the world of house music! But he doesn't stop there: "New Beginnings" is punctuated with Chinese-language snippets, while "Feel OK," with its piano chords (both forwards and reversed) comes from the land of pure groove. A hint of the blues drifts into "I Know I Show It," and the dub rhythm returns on "Enjoyable Employable," even if the track morphs far beyond it. "Thank You" is bright and shiny tech-house, and "Train in Austria" circles back to the beginning by bringing back the rhythmic tones -- Detroit by way of the Danube, I suppose. It's house as it was meant to be thumped.
