Afro-Cuban rhythms, jazz, blues, gospel, rock ‘n’ roll, soul or ska — Black musics did shape a great part of the Twentieth Century world culture.
This 3-CD box set looks back on the expansion of a hybrid, wide-ranging culture drawing its sources from the Mississippi banks, a Philadelphia Baptist temple, a Port-au-Prince suburb, sugarcane fields in Brazil’s Nordeste and all the way to Brazzaville’s dance halls as it seduced and conquered the world. This collection was produced and commented on by Bruno Blum in partnership with the Cité de la Musique on the occasion of the “Great Black Music” exhibition in Paris.
